Travel & Tourism Level 3

Travel & Tourism Level 3 - Adam

Former School: Knole Academy

After his school pulled the Travel & Tourism courses, Adam started looking for options and came to an Open Event at East Surrey College.

“Although the College was one of furthest from me, it had a good reputation and was one of the nicest ones I visited.”

Adam was Travel & Tourism Level 3 Student of the Year in his first year of the course and was one of five Aviation, Travel & Tourism students to receive an invite to visit Gatwick Airport in October 2019.

On the trip, Adam and the students received a behind the scenes tour of baggage handling, an airport lounge, and were taken out onto the airfield to observe plane departures. Adam commented:

"It really helped my course, being able to see all the different layers of security. There was also so much to see on the airfield, and so many jobs to think about!"

He is now on Year 2 of the course, and is ahead on his coursework, aiming to finish in January.

“I’m really enjoying the course! We’re told to go at our own pace, so I followed that advice and am now on track to finish early!”

Outside of College, Adam has a part-time job at an engineering company and has also taught Taekwondo for the past 6 years, which has helped build his leadership and people skills.

He has lined up work experience for next year at a train station and is hoping to pursue a career in the travel industry.

“I’ve set this out as my time to choose what I want to do and try different things out. I’d like a career in travel but am keeping my options open!”
