On Monday 24 November, East Surrey College achieved outstanding success in the 2025 Kryolan Student Halloween Contest, a national challenge run by the leading professional make-up brand.
This year, several of our talented Theatrical and Media Make-up students impressed the judges with their highly detailed and innovative designs, earning top placements across multiple categories.

Ruby Doohan took first place in the Creative category with an extraordinary full-body Halloween look. The Kryolan Make-up Artist (MUA) team praised it as “professional and well-executed”, noting that it looked as though it could have come straight from a movie set.
Lily Smith also earned first place, winning the Special Effects (SFX) category for her hyper-realistic clown design. Using a bald cap and expertly applied splatter detailing across the face and head, Lily delivered a truly gruesome effect.
Both Ruby and Lily were recognised for their talents with a £100 Prize Voucher & 1 Day Workshop with Kryolan City London.

Victoria Ratcliffe secured second place for her interpretation of Frankenstein’s monster. The Kryolan team praised Victoria’s great use of shading and the professional nature of the photos, going the extra mile with her costume to complete the iconic look.
Frances Wilde was awarded third place for her spider eye design showcasing complex texture and 3D make-up techniques. The team noted the impressive base and black and white linework used to create the ‘striking’ look.
A massive congratulations to all our talented students who entered the Kryolan Halloween Make-up contest. Your remarkable skill and dedication to your craft is clear to see and a reflection of the high standard of training within the department.
