National Apprenticeship Week Draws to a Close

Date: 12 February 2020

National Apprenticeship Week 2020 has been another busy one at ESC, we’ve welcomed employers to the College and been out representing ESC at various events in the community.

Throughout the week, we’ve enjoyed celebrating Apprenticeships in partnership with our local schools. Richard Brooks, Business Development Manager, visited Reigate School, Riddlesdown Collegiate and de Stafford School to share the benefits of Apprenticeships as career route.

Richard commented:

“This is part of our ongoing initiative to raise awareness of Apprenticeships as a strong career route in to the workplace.  At East Surrey College we are delighted to be able to offer Apprenticeships from Level 2 through to Degree Apprenticeship and are always happy to support local schools and employers in answering queries that they may have on the relevant benefits to them.”

Within the College, our final visitors were Mike & Eleanor from Redhill-based Web Developers Yes We Do Websites, who spoke to Business & IT students about how to get ahead in the work place.

They discussed with students how to get involved in the world of work and study and answered questions on how to impress employers when going in for interviews.

“Starting off with work placements within companies is a great way to understand more about the company and if it is the right choice to begin an Apprenticeship with them.”

When speaking to Alexandra, IT Level 3, about how she found the talk, she said:

“I knew a bit about Apprenticeships already, but it was an eye opening view on Apprenticeships. It made them seem appealing – they sold Apprenticeships to me.”

We also asked our Apprentices from across the College to sum up their Apprenticeship experience in a few words – here’s what they said!

“It changed me for good- it has helped me progress in my life and improved my future.”
Emily, Customer Services Practitioner

“I’ve become more confident, know new things and met some of the greatest people.”
 Ellie, Finance Administrator

“Having the time of my life!”
Steven, Bricklaying Apprentice

“Fun and extremely challenging”
Archie, Bricklaying Apprentice

“If you’re a hands-on learner, an Apprenticeship is for you.”
Megan, Apprentice Hairdresser
