Diploma in Photography Level 3

Diploma in Photography Level 3 - Luka

Former School(s): Carrington School (The Warwick School)

Luka came to the UK from Portugal when he was ten years old. His favourite subject at secondary school was Art and he has had an interest in Photography since he was a child.

After attending Art taster days at both Reigate College and ESC, he felt that Art A Level was too theoretical for him, so decided on this course as the practical, single-focus aspects appealed more. He explains:

"You have to do what your heart feels is right. The main thing is you have to genuinely enjoy your subject to get the most out of it."

Since joining his course, Luka has enjoyed a trip to the V&A Museum for inspiration. He has also gained valuable experience working on a project with Brighton-based community arts group Same Sky. This involved photographing the process of Art, Design & Media students creating lanterns and flags for the Winter Lights Festival at National Trust’s Standen Gardens.

His favourite aspect of the course is that "it is a broad subject and offers the freedom and space to allow your ideas to develop".

Luka appreciates the support and advice he receives from his tutors, saying:

“My tutors are very intuitive and treat you as an individual.  It’s great having tutors who work in the industry and can share their experiences.”

In the future, Luka sees himself working and gaining experience in the field rather than going on to University.

His advice to students deciding on whether to join ESC:

"If you have ambition, dedication and passion - this is the place for you!"
