Life Skills - SEND Students Spend an Afternoon with the Mayor
Date: 13 February 2022
National Apprenticeship Week is an exciting opportunity to celebrate our Apprenticeships, engage with a range of local and national employers, and learn a little more about the Apprenticeship offer at Orbital South Colleges.
See what our students got up to during NAW 2022!
As well as hearing from employers, our School Liaison and Apprenticeships Teams have also been out and about this week at schools including Oxted School and Carrington School.

Our Engineering Level 2 students had a great time at the Gatwick Job Fair, held by Gatwick Airport and the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP). The students spoke to the many employers who were present and took part in mock interviews, with one student even securing a Part-time job whilst on-site!
With around 2,600 jobs available at the fair, this was a brilliant event for our students to speak directly with employers and get their foot in the door of different industries.
“It was great to see all the job opportunities available”
“It was so easy to talk to everyone there” Andrew
|Our Business Level 3 students attended a virtual talk with Talha Khan, a Bursar at Micklefield School in Reigate. Students were able to find out more about Apprenticeships and were given real-life examples of the day-to-day tasks completed at the School.|

Cordelia Fountaine, Head of Recruitment on behalf of Seeability, visited our Childcare and Health & Social Care Level 1 and 2 students.
She gave them a motivational talk about roles within the company, supporting people with learning disabilities and autism. She described the Health and Social Care sector as “phenomenal and full of brilliant opportunities.”
Bucher Municipal introduced their exciting Apprenticeship programmes to our Engineering and Motor Vehicle students! Sandra Mackrell, HR Officer, and Matt Chapman, Continuous Improvement Manager, shared how Apprentices get a taste for different departments, including Welding and Mechanical Engineering.
Our students were inspired by Matt’s story, as he started out as Level 3 Apprentice himself and progressed to a Degree Apprenticeship with Bucher.
