Successful Games, Animation & 3D Modelling Competition at ESC

Successful Games, Animation & 3D Modelling Competition at ESC

Date: 04 March 2024

The Games, Animation & 3D Modelling Level 3 students took part in a 3-day Game Jam from the 27th - 29th February.

Throughout the Game Jam, both Level 3 year 1 & 2 students came together to form 7 groups. The teams were given a theme (Meme), where they were tasked with building and designing a game.

Game Jams are an extremely common within the games industry to produce creative ideas for future games, many games that have been released to great acclaim originally started out as game jams (SUPERHOT, Hollow Knight and Celeste etc.)

To launch the event, a spokesperson, Siân Mayhall-Purvis - Education Programme Coordinator, from Ukie came to speak to the students about the company and kick off the game building.

From there the teams went away to design and create a game to be presented and assessed on the 29 February.

This was a fantastic opportunity for students, helping them build their collaboration as the teams were a mixture of year 1&2 students, and for them to experience what it is like to work on a game within a games industry setting.

Congratulations to Team YE (Joe, Joesph, Zach, Thomas and Terrell) who came 1st place, winning a £5 voucher each and a game of their choice.

Additionally, well done to Team Gromit Mug (Fae, Beetle, Jess, Elizabeth and Daniel) coming 2nd place in this event. And Team Memetic Influence (Jack, Alfie, Michael, Callum and Archie) who won 3rd place.
