On 24 September, East Surrey College was excited to welcome George, a Digital and IT Alumni, who now works as a Cyber Security Risk and Compliance Manager at Rolls-Royce. Having started his educational journey at East Surrey, George kindly met with our current students, ready to help them progress into their careers after college.
As part of his return to college, George hosted an informative and valuable presentation to our Level 3 BTEC and T Level students. He detailed his academic journey at the University of Plymouth where he then worked several roles within BAE Systems, Accenture IT Consultancy, and now at Rolls-Royce.
George spoke with learners about his experience at Rolls-Royce and how he applied his course towards his future studies and career. When given the opportunity to ask questions, students were curious about the future job market and how to boost their employability.
Another key topic George covered was how to tackle job interviews, and the best way to secure future roles. His suggestions included honesty, asking intentional questions, and how to be proactive at work. He emphasised the importance of communication, punctuality, meeting deadlines and maintaining a positive work ethic.
Terrence Dias, Digital Curriculum Manager (College Group), reflected on George’s return to college: “I felt very proud to see George’s progress and achievements, especially in securing such a high-profile role with a well-known and respected company like Rolls-Royce. It was fantastic to see him sharing his experience and inspiring the next generation of Computing students.”
