17 September 2026

On Tuesday 15 September, our Enrichment team kicked off the new academic year with the return of our annual Freshers’ Fair, and this year’s event was bigger and better than ever!
The fair gave new and returning students the chance to get involved in a range of activities, meet local organisations and charities, and discover the support and opportunities available to them both inside and outside of college.

From Pickleball and hook-a-duck to VR headsets, there was plenty to keep students entertained throughout the day. And, of course, there were plenty of goodies and freebies to take home too!
A special visit from Ami Charlize
One of the highlights of this year’s Freshers’ Fair was The Lucy Rayner Foundation, who partnered with Sundae Scoop to bring an ice cream truck to the college, alongside special guest and influencer Ami Charlize.
Students were buzzing as they enjoyed the ice cream and had the chance to meet Ami, taking photos with her in the Summer Garden. The event also helped shine a spotlight on the important work of The Lucy Rayner Foundation and the message they share about the importance of mental wellbeing amongst young people and how support is always out there.

Meeting local organisations
We were also joined by a fantastic range of local businesses, charities and organisations.
The Light Redhill had students competing to win prizes on their Prize Wheel, while Cornerstone brought along VR headsets which proved to be a big hit throughout the day.
Youth Engagement Officers, Africa Community in Surrey and Sussex and many other organisations also joined us to speak with students about the support, services and opportunities available in the local community.

Get involved at college
The Freshers’ Fair was also a chance for students to get involved in college life. Students could sign up for Student Voice, giving them the chance to represent their peers and share ideas about student life.
There was also the new opportunity to sign up to become a Student Marketing Ambassador, giving students valuable work experience by getting involved with the Marketing team.

The Freshers’ Fair is always a brilliant way to start the academic year, and we’re looking forward to all the events and activities our Enrichment team has planned for the year ahead.
A huge thank you to our Enrichment and Quality team for bringing the event to life, and to all the organisations, charities and businesses who joined us and helped make the day such a success. We’ll see you next year!
You can also meet our tutors, explore our facilities and find out more about life at East Surrey College at our next Open Event on 26 September.
