Public Services have been showing just how action packed the course can be taking part in a wide range of exciting outings and specialised training sessions. Here’s a look at some of the fantastic experiences they have taken part in over the last few months.

Back in March, our Level 3 Public Services students visited Longmoor British Army Training Camp for an active day of military training and industry insight. Students participated in different activities including discipline drills, camouflage exercises, and even had the chance to enjoy some paintballing. The visit, gave the students a real taste of army life and helped them explore the many routes their course can lead to, including the armed forces. Â

Last month, the course headed beyond the classroom for their annual two-day hiking and camping expedition. Despite facing a brief hailstorm at the campsite, students showed impressive resilience and teamwork throughout the trip. Alongside the physical challenge of orienteering and hiking, they also enjoyed time together around the campfire with karaoke and the opportunity to explore some local countryside scenery. The expedition proved to be a great success. Students build confidence and essential communication and leadership skills needed to progress into roles in the sector, including as an outdoor activity instructor or specialised trainer in the police force. Â

Alongside their exciting practical activities, our Public Services courses also equipped students with the essential theory knowledge needed to succeed in the industry. Recently they got hands-on with first aid training, learning just how important these skills are for careers in the ambulance service and search & rescue. From treating an injured hiker, to performing CPR, students developed invaluable life-saving skills that will not only support their career progression but also prove helpful in everyday life.Â
Students also get the opportunity to engage with real employers and most recently had a visit from the local fire service who delivered some specialist training. First getting fitted with the boots, helmets and protective gear firefighters wear, they learned essential fire hose skills – getting to grips with how to handle, roll and repack equipment. It was a fantastic hands-on experience that gave students a real insight into the emergency services and a chance to speak directly with industry professionals.Â
