Last Thursday, we welcomed back The Dissection Guy, Sam Piri, for an engaging hands-on anatomy session. Open to our Applied Science and Access to HE Nursing, the workshop provided invaluable practical experience and insight into human anatomy.

Sam delivered an excellent 5-hour session covering key areas of body anatomy, explaining the theory and essential facts before demonstrating the different anatomical structures that the students would be dissecting.
Once the theory session had concluded, it was time for the students to get hands on. They had the opportunity to dissect various body parts of a pig (including eyes, brains, lungs and hearts), gaining important knowledge of anatomical structures and their positions within the body.
Applied Science lecturer Dr Samantha Henry-Akhigbe told us “The day gave students a valuable opportunity to experience practical anatomy work that many people don’t get to do until university. Students found the session both interesting and informative, helping bring their classroom learning to life.”

The session was not only helpful for students to better understand the Physiology and Anatomy components of their courses, it also helped them gain experience that will make them standout when applying for higher education institutions, apprenticeships and jobs within the sector.
Disclaimer: No animals were harmed for the workshop, the specimens came from animals reared for food.
