On Wednesday 4 March, East Surrey College welcomed a range of guest speakers who shared insights with students about a variety of career opportunities, in aviation, rail, childcare and wellness.Â

The day began with a visit from Fennies Nursery, who delivered an interactive session with our Health and Social Care students. They provided insight into the day-to-day life of working in a nursery and highlighted the key skills needed to succeed in the field. They discussed career progression opportunities with the national nursery chain including their early years apprenticeship programme. Â

A full auditorium of Travel and Tourism students had a visit from the Aviation Recruitment Network who discussed with students the endless different careers in the aviation sector. From hospitality, baggage handling and security to logistics and cabin crew roles, they highlighted the many pathways students can pursue and explained how their organisation supports college leavers in finding employment in the industry.Â

Later in the afternoon, Mike Shaw and Scott Kitcheside from Network Rail joined engineering students to speak about the variety of maintenance roles that help support millions of train journeys a year. They highlighted how their teams deliver planned maintenance while also responding quickly to faults as they occur, responding to works 365 days of the year, day and night. Â

Lastly, Sinead Moore from Renew with Lou, a local spa based in Caterham also joined to speak with Hair and Beauty students. Sinead spoke about their own career progression as well as giving personal advice about how showing up for yourself early on is the biggest aid to career growth.  Â
