15 October 2025
On Wednesday 15 October, Catch 22 and Fight or Flight, two local organisations that support mental wellbeing in the local community, joined in the Winter Garden to speak with students about mental health and drug use.
Catch 22 spoke with students who were eager to learn about the harm that drugs can have, using interactive boxes that had explanations of the harmful effects of many common recreational drugs. The charity came with a supply of freebies including pens, wristbands, stickers, and fidget toys encouraging students to come over and get talking.
Fight or Flight, a now regular attendee at college events, came equipped with their message to get people talking about their own mental health – judgement free. The group spoke about the free activities they run in the local community to support mental health, including boxing, yoga, and community walks.
Will Buckland, Substance Misuse Practitioner at Catch 22 reflected on the afternoon, saying:
“The students have been really engaged, interacting with the stand and what we have on display. It’s been great opportunity to speak with young people and let them know the real harm linked to some of these substances.”
Routine visits from local partners like Catch 22 and Fight or Flight reflect an ongoing commitment by the College to support students beyond the classroom with a range of wellbeing tools and resources.
