On Thursday 10 December, East Surrey College proudly hosted a captivating photography exhibition showcasing the talent and creativity of our LEAP and Springboard learners in their photography exhibition held at Gatton Point North
Friends, family, and staff gathered to celebrate the learners’ achievements and explore a wide array of striking images on display. Alongside viewing the impressive work of our learners, guests enjoyed a soiree of festive refreshments and were given the opportunity to purchase Christmas gifts and treats made by our Foundation Learners.

The exhibition highlighted the work of our Foundation learners, who have been exploring photography as part of their Level 1 Award course. Armed with nothing more than their mobile phones, students captured the world around them through four distinct themes: Nature, Urban, Monochrome, and Patterns & Textures.
Their journey has taken them across a variety of inspiring locations – from the vibrant streets of Brighton and the cultural energy of the Southbank, to the striking architecture of the Walkie-Talkie building, and the natural beauty of Box Hill and Gatton Park. Even the familiar surroundings of the college have provided opportunities to see the everyday in new and imaginative ways.

Our judge, Jenny Adamson, Chair of Governors, selected four winners who impressed her with their ability to capture the essence of each category.
Chloe Chan won the Patterns & Textures category with a striking image of a fennel plant up close, and Mollie Louise Taylor Griffiths claimed the Monochrome prize for a high-contrast photograph of fireworks at night.
James Brazil was recognised in the Urban category for his stunning image of the London Eye and Big Ben reflected in the Thames, while Ryan Richardson’s Nature shot captured the delicate focus of a leaf in flowing water.
Fiona Johnstone, Director of Learning, said:
“It has been so rewarding seeing the learners get involved in this photographic project and go out and about on trips, armed with just their mobile phones, to capture images under the four categories. To then see the very best of their work presented in an impressive art exhibition has been a joy. We have unlocked some great talent amongst our learners. Thank you to Jenny Adamson, our Chair of Governors, who was given the hard task of judging the entries and selecting our four category winners”
