4 April 2025
On Thursday 3 April, East Surrey College students competed in SurreyFE’s Construction Skills Competition at Brooklands Technical College.
The competition saw the College reunite with Activate Learning (Guildford College), NESCOT and Brooklands Technical College for a variety of challenges for students across different abilities. The categories included Brickwork, Carpentry, and Insulation Installation, with separate tasks designed for Level 1 and Level 2 students.

Brickwork students were tasked with constructing two distinct wall structures, followed by installing insulation to meet specific guidelines. A massive congratulations to Josh Tucker from East Surrey College who finished in first place in Level 1 Brickwork.

In the Carpentry category, students had to follow a planned structure, which saw them complete a roofing project and then apply insulation. This task saw another outstanding result from our students who finished in first place, followed by Brooklands Technical College and NESCOT in joint second place. Later in the installation segment of the competition students were given a guidance sheet outlining the proper techniques and standards that were required to comply with the latest building regulations for their task.
Congratulations to everyone who took part in the competition and thank you to the other SurreyFE Colleges for the ongoing collaboration that helps to shape the skilled workforce of the future in and around Surrey.
