3 April 2025
On Wednesday 2 April 2025, Muslim students and staff celebrated Eid at the College with gifts and food to mark the end of the sacred month of Ramadan.
Ramadan is a month-long period of reflection and devotion in Islam, during which those of faith abstain from eating and drinking from dawn until sunset. The small gathering of students and staff at Gatton Point South saw some of our Muslim community celebrate with halal chocolates and sweets typically gifted at Eid.
ESOL lecturer Mayada Jawad shared, ‘The students thanked us deeply and said it meant a lot to them; they were surprised that their classroom had been decorated to reflect the joy of the occasion, moreover, to be offered the gifts, the cake, and the drinks.’
The celebrations mark an end to this year’s Ramadan, during which ESOL students also enjoyed a visit to the Ramadan Lights in London and took part in a special evening feast with our College Iftar.
Thank you to all those who helped to organise this year’s celebrations, it has been a great reminder of the strength of our community and the Colleges’ commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment for all.
