What a season – the 2024 Student Motorsports Challenge has finally wrapped after 7 events and 17 intense rounds from April to October. The two final rounds took place in Brands Hatch on the 19 and 20 October 2024.
We completed the Student Motorsport Challenge 2024 in third place and the overall BRSCC Championship standing are still in draft.

The challenge has enabled young people studying our Motor Vehicle Level 2 and Motorsports Level 3 courses to fully immerse themselves in the world of motorsports. At the beginning of September 2023, students were tasked with converting a donor car into a race car fit for the track, whilst running their own team in the BRSCC Nankang Tyre CityCar Cup Championship.
Students were also able to compete in the annual Pit Stop Challenge where teams are asked to complete a simulated pit stop against the clock. Teams were tasked with changing two front wheels, adjusting damper settings and type pressures, cleaning the windscreen, changing the air filter and completing a driver change in a safe and accurate manner. East Surrey College students placed 2nd with a time of 3:25.13, winning a set of fluids kindly supplied by Motul.

Laurence Sait, Motor Vehicle Coordinator & Motorsports Lead commented on the season: “This 2024 season has been nothing short of spectacular, I really have to commend the hard work and dedication of our students and staff, and of course our driver Jack Wheeler. This challenge is the perfect opportunity for students to gain real-life experience, whilst also improving their soft skills including communication and teamwork.”
