11 November 2025
On Tuesday 11 November, East Surrey College held its Remembrance Day service to honour those who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
This year, due to ongoing building work, the College was unable to hold its usual in-person ceremony in the Winter Garden. Instead, a special service was pre-recorded in the Sports Hall and then broadcast to students and staff in classrooms just before 11 o’clock, allowing the whole community to collectively reflect during the two-minute silence.

Meanwhile on the Roof Garden, a far more intimate address from the CEO and Principal took place alongside Public Services students and staff. During the speech, the Principal paid respect to all those who lost their lives in both world wars and acknowledged ongoing conflicts across the world. A commemorative service led by Mark Palmer and Graham Johnson followed, with Public Services students who stood to attention for the two-minute silence before laying down wreaths.

Supported Learning students also paid tribute with their own commemorative display, making hundreds of paper poppies for a poignant waterfall display that took place in the College Reception.
Thank you to all those who supported our Remembrance Day service. It was a powerful reminder of the courage and sacrifice of those who fought for our freedoms, which we must never forget.
